Stayman is used after a player has opened 2NT and their partner holds at least one four-card Major with enough points to go to game
The purpose is to try to
locate a Major suit fit.
If you are 5/5 or 5/4, bid 3 Clubs (Stayman),have in your system a similar reply as over 1NT, 3 Diamonds, denying a 4 card Major(Not 3NT). Then, if 5/4 you can bid your 5 card suit and Partner should know what to do.If you are 5/5 in the Majors bid 4 Diamonds over a 3 Diamonds response, showing 5/5 (similar to extended Stayman over 1NT) or take appropriate action if you get a Major suit reply depending on your strength.In order for all this to work properly make it a rule NEVER to open 2NT with two doubleton Majors.(Open 1 of something or 2 Clubs depending on how good you are)
Not playing transfers, with with one 5 card Major suit you just bid it.
